The village seems to rise out of the rocks, with its white houses carved out of the mountainside and climbing up the side of a hill overlooked by an imposing castle. The <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/J%C3%BAcar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">river J\u00facar<\/a> winds through the canyon, creating a landscape that looks like something out of a fairy tale.<\/p>\n<p>The location of the village means that the houses are carved out of the mountain itself, with caves that go right up to the edge of the village. It is worth noting that three of these caves can be visited.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"historia_y_patrimonio\"><\/span>History and heritage<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In 1982 it was declared a Historic-Artistic Site and later, in 1986, it was awarded third prize after the Eiffel Tower and the Great Mosque of Istanbul, for the best artistic illumination. In 1998 the town council received the \"Tourism Award\" from the Community of Castilla La Mancha for its work in the promotion and development of tourism.<br \/>\nThe castle, built in the 12th century, offers spectacular views of the canyon and the village. Strolling through its cobbled streets, it seems as if time has stood still, as every corner and square tells stories of centuries gone by.<br \/>\nAmong the most outstanding monuments is the church of San Andr\u00e9s, a 16th century Renaissance jewel. The J\u00facar canyon is a perfect place for hiking, with numerous routes offering panoramic views of the valley.
