Head to R\u00faa do Franco and R\u00faa de San Pedro for a tapas route and a taste of the local gastronomy. Soak up the lively atmosphere as you mingle with the locals and sample typical dishes. You'll also be able to sample a wide variety of wines and craft beers to accompany your dining experience.<\/p>\n<p>In the old part of town, at the entrance to Avenida de Rodrigo del Padr\u00f3n, there is a legendary bar, Marte, where its tortilla tapas are famous among locals and tourists alike. The terrace fills up with people and is a good place to have dinner before heading out into the Compostela nightlife. El Franco is a very busy area and the legendary Par\u00eds, Dakar and Orense, one of the oldest bars in Santiago, stand out.<\/p>\n<p>On R\u00faa Ra\u00ed\u00f1a there are also more affordable terraces and bars. A classic is the Bar La Tita on R\u00faa Nova, famous for its lightly cooked omelette. The historical area was considered more \"folk\" and the new part more \"modern\". Nowadays, the streets of the old part of town are full and there is a lively atmosphere every day. In almost every street it is easy to find a bar, pub or caf\u00e9. Wines and tapas are everywhere in the old town, although most of them are concentrated in R\u00faa do Franco, Ra\u00ed\u00f1a, Troia, R\u00faa de San Pedro and Porta Faxeira.<\/p>\n<p>In summer the terraces fill up and a good, quieter option is R\u00faa de San Paio de Antealtares. The Quintana, R\u00faa do Vilar and Nova areas also have terraces in gardens and there are some hidden corners.<\/p>\n<p>As for pubs, there is something for everyone. Each one has its own personality but almost all of them are characterised by having a small space, respecting the layout of the historic buildings and by having granite walls, a characteristic material of Santiago de Compostela. Many people leave coins on the walls with the desire to return.<\/p>\n<p>In the new area there are streets very close to each other - Montero R\u00edos, Alfredo Bra\u00f1as - and the area of Plaza Roja or Nova de Abaixo which have a great party atmosphere. The concept of a pub or discotheque here is different, they are large spaces that fill up during the school year with university students and there are always plans to meet up with friends and continue the nightlife in Compostela.
