Its origin dates back to the Middle Ages, and can be found in canticles, chronicles, sculptures and ancient texts. Today, many pilgrims still greet each other with an \"Ultreia!\" but it is mostly used by older pilgrims. It is a way of reconnecting with the tradition of centuries; an encouragement to the pilgrim which is the equivalent of saying \"Come on, don't give up!
