True to our motto: "Don't dream your life, live your dreams".
Because, what's the point of life if you don't live it! The Camino is full of unique, shared and moving moments, you just have to start them with a good sentence.
"Buen Camino": the most heard phrase on the Camino de Santiago
It is the most common and universal phrase. You will hear it at least ten times per stage. It is said when crossing paths with other walkers, at the start of a stage, or even from cars or houses as pilgrims pass by. It conveys companionship, respect and encouragement. Sometimes, a simple "Buen Camino" can give you strength when you are exhausted.
"Ultreia et Suseia": the ancient pilgrim greeting
This expression is an ancient greeting used by pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago. Its origin dates back to the Middle Ages, and can be found in canticles, chronicles, sculptures and ancient texts. Today, many pilgrims still greet each other with an "Ultreia!" but it is mostly used by older pilgrims. It is a way of reconnecting with the tradition of centuries; an encouragement to the pilgrim which is the equivalent of saying "Come on, don't give up! A rough translation into English would be: "Beyond and upwards!" (Ultreia: "beyond", et: "and", Suseia: "upwards") So if you want to surprise people along the way or greet the locals, you know what phrase to use!
"The Camino begins when it ends": the true inner journey
It is said when arriving in Santiago. And it means that the real inner change begins after the lived experience. Finishing it makes it real, and therefore worth remembering.
"The Camino gives you what you need": a reflection on the essentials
It's a thoughtful phrase, but it's absolutely true. It means that you learn to accept and discover the essential, not the superficial. You already have an ace up your sleeve.
"Everyone does their own Camino": the unique experience of each pilgrim
Very common among pilgrims, as well as "You will never walk alone". There is no single way to do the Camino. Each person lives their own process, pace and motivation. If you want to discover what other phrases are said during the Camino, you have no choice but to do it!
