School Trips

More and more schools, schools and academies make your school trips Camino de Santiago. Therefore, Viajeros Canallas, leader of the Camino de Santiago in group, with more than 8 years and 9,500 pilgrims, launches this project:

The Way of Saint James from Sarria as a school trip

A project in which we have put a lot of heart so that, on the one hand, students and teachers enjoy a unique experience with everything organised and only having to worry about walking and enjoying themselves.

On the other hand, parents can see how their children go on a school trip in which, as well as enjoying themselves, they develop personal values such as companionship, friendship, empowerment, personal challenge and environmental awareness.

That is why we present you our most requested pack, the STAR pack. But understanding that every school and students have different needs, we will always organise a video call to focus on all the details and personalise each project.

A project where students and teachers will enjoy a unique experience with everything organised by experts. In addition, parents will see how their children go on a school trip in which, as well as enjoying themselves, they will develop personal values.

    Meeting and accommodation in Sarria

Reception of the group and meeting at the hostel selected by our expert and founder Alberto Lence. We will meet at 18:30 and then the meeting will begin in which the Viajeros Canallas team will explain to students and teachers the last details and recommendations to make this trip unforgettable. We will finish the day with the first group dinner.

    First stage: Sarria - PortomarĆn

    • Distance to be covered: 22 kms.
    • Estimated time: 5-6 hours.
    • Difficulty: Low.

The time has come for students and teachers to take the first steps on this adventure. The first stage, of low difficulty, is one of the most emblematic for the beauty of its landscapes and because we pass through the 100th kilometre of this route. The terrain is gentle and undulating, and runs almost entirely through wooded areas and small villages, crossing medieval bridges, watercourses and rustic footbridges. We arrive at PortomarĆn, a village famous for its beauty and history.

Second stage: PortomarĆn - Palas de Rei

    • Distance to be covered: 25 kms.
    • Estimated time: 6 hours.
    • Difficulty: Low.

This second stage is similar in difficulty to the previous one. The terrain is gentle and runs through rural areas, passing through small villages. After crossing the Belesar reservoir over a footbridge, the stage follows paths mostly close to the road. We pass through the village of Castromaior, known for one of the most important historical sites from the Iron Age in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula: the Castro de Castromaior.

Third stage: Palas de Rei - Ribadiso de Baixo

    • Distance to be covered: 27 kms.
    • Estimated time: 7-8 hours.
    • Difficulty: Medium.

The third stage is the longest and most beautiful of this route. Students and teachers will enjoy in its first half small villages and constant trails with gentle slopes that will reach Melide, a town famous for having two of the world's pulperĆas. The second half is somewhat more demanding and takes us to the beautiful village of Ribasido de Baixo.

    Stage 4: Ribadiso - Pedrouzo

    • Distance to be covered: 21 kms.
    • Estimated time: 5-6 hours.
    • Difficulty: Low.

We begin the fourth stage, which will run almost entirely along forest tracks and paths next to the road, generally simple terrain with predominantly eucalyptus forests and vast meadows. We will reach Pedrouzo and we will be only 19 km from our goal: Santiago de Compostela.

Stage 5: Pedrouzo - Santiago de Compostela

We are starting the last stage of this adventure. It is probably not the most beautiful stage, nor of course the most demanding, but it is the most special and magical, because we will cover the last kilometres until we reach the goal of this common challenge that we started on the first day of the meeting: Santiago de Compostela. Just 5 kms. from entering the Plaza del Obradoiro, we will find Monte do Gozo (here we always recommend to enter, walk a few meters and enjoy the wonderful view of the Cathedral of Santiago). It's time to let your emotions come to the surface, smile with pride or cry with emotion and shout "We did it! Congratulations, team.

WHY DO THE CAMINO DE SANTIAGO AS A SCHOOL TRIP WITH ROGUE TRAVELLERS?

Leading company of the Camino de Santiago

More than 20 years doing the Camino de Santiago and more than 7 years organizing groups. The company founded by Alberto Lence, expert of the Camino de Santiago, who has done more than 4,400 kms on foot, has grown from 4 groups in its beginnings in 2017 to 45 groups that we organise in 2023.

All organised by experts on the Camino de Santiago

We know perfectly every corner of the Camino de Santiago and all the stages, we choose the private hostels, all located at the end of each stage, so that you only have to worry about walking and enjoying. In Viajeros Canallas, we prepare the trip with plenty of time in advance to have organized even the smallest detail.

The coordinator is always in the area

We like to be close to our people, so there will always be a coordinator in the area.

Personalised attention and adaptability to each situation

We know that each school and pupils have different needs and, for this reason, we plan a video call in which our project manager, in a personalised way, attends to all the details to make the trip an experience that pupils and teachers will never forget.

Organised School Trips to the Way of Saint James

More and more schools are choosing to do the Camino de Santiago as a school trip.

In Viajeros Canallas we have created a project for young people to enjoy and share experiences with their companions while they learn, enhance personal values and discover new cultures and languages, since on the Camino they will cross paths with young people from different parts of the world.

What's more, we love to put a face to each other and personalise each project as much as possible. And because we know that every school has different needs, we organise a video call to polish every detail and make each end-of-year trip unforgettable.

There is no trip where our young people leave more empowered as in the Camino de Santiago, after having overcome a common challenge. Without a doubt, the school trip to the Camino de Santiago is an experience that both students and teachers will never forget. Shall we go?
