Can I go or sign up on my own?
Of course they do! Many of our travellers do it. You can sign up alone, alone, as a couple, with friends, with your family or however you prefer!
How do I get to Sarria?
It is very easy to get to the start of your Camino. If you are coming from outside Spain, you can fly to Santiago de Compostela if there is a connection from your area, and from there to Sarria by bus, or you can fly to Madrid (international airport) and from there to Sarria by direct train or from cities such as the Canary Islands, Seville or Barcelona, the nearest airport is Santiago de Compostela and from there to Sarria you can take a bus (either direct or via Lugo, depending on your timetable).
Another option is from Madrid, as there are direct trains to Sarria. Never forget carpooling, sometimes it's a cheap and comfortable option.
Here is a link with more information on how to get to Sarria.
https://www.viajeroscanallas.es/como-llegar-a-sarria-camino-de-santiago/
How to get from Santiago to Sarria?
You have several options to get to Sarria from Santiago de Compostela. The most chosen is by bus line of the company Monbus/Flixbus, either direct if it fits your schedule or via Lugo, which there are more timetable combinations. On the other hand, there is the Renfe train, which transfers in Ourense. You can also choose to share a taxi or a private transfer.
What is our cancellation policy?
In the 15 days following the payment of your booking, the refund will be 100% of the amount paid without having to present any document, simply because you decide to do so, except if you make your booking in the last 60 days before the start of the trip, in which case no refund will be made as it will be given as a confirmed place.
Up to 30 days before the start of the trip, refund of 50% of the amount paid for the following reasons of force majeure:
➡️ Serious illness with hospitalisation
➡️ Placement in a new job, in a different company
➡️ Summons or presentation to a selection board for competitive examinations.
It will be essential to submit the documentation proving the cause of force majeure by sending it to caminodesantiago@viajeroscanallas.es for approval
It is important to understand that this is a trip with a lot of organisation (7 days / 6 nights each day sleeping in a hostel, having breakfast and dinner in a different place), so if you are signed up with someone else, it is essential that everyone has this text so that they read and accept this information, both about the trip and the cancellation policy.
From my chosen date, when do I have to take the return transport?
The first day of your chosen date is only for you to organise yourself to get to the starting point and meet the group in the afternoon. You start walking the next day, arrive in Santiago on the penultimate day, spend the night in Santiago and on the last day of your chosen date from the morning onwards you can leave, i.e. you can pick up your return transport at any time you want.
Where do we stand?
It is obvious that if you are going to do the French Way, you have to organise your arrival at the starting point, which is Sarria (Lugo). If it is the Portuguese route along the coast, Baiona (Vigo). In addition, 2 days before, in the WhatsApp group we will give you all the indications so that it will be very easy for you to get to the hostel and meet and contact your group.
Will you carry my luggage during the Camino?
That's up to you, you can take it with you or hire the luggage transfer service as an option, for 30€ (French Way); 35€ (Portuguese Way along the coast) single payment for the whole week and we will transfer your backpack or cabin bag (as long as it doesn't exceed 8kgs) from stage to stage during your Camino. If this is your case, you would hire it together with the second payment (up to one month before the start of the trip). It is very important for your transfer that everything goes inside your luggage, there can be nothing outside it.
What is your accommodation like? What is a private hostel like?
We always work with private hostels with shared mixed rooms (men and women), it is the spirit of the Camino de Santiago. They are all selected by Alberto, our Camino expert, so that you can enjoy this experience to the fullest. The rooms have bunk beds, so you can choose the top or the bottom. If you think you need a low bed, this is not your concept (we recommend you to select our concept of accommodation in hostels and pensions in private double rooms).
If we have managed to be the No. 1 company on the Camino, it is because there is no better way to live the experience than in a group, sharing and making a big family. The bathrooms will always have common areas for men and women, separately, and within them, showers and individual toilets.
Do I need to bring a sleeping bag?
Yes, the sleeping bag is important on the Camino de Santiago. In the private hostels, they will give you your fitted sheet, pillow and pillowcase (sometimes they will have blankets), but it is essential to bring your sleeping bag because if it is cold it is very comfortable to get inside and if it is hot, you can open it and use it as a duvet.
What to carry in your rucksack?
It is possible that your first intention is to fill your backpack or suitcase. From experience I will tell you to forget the "porsiacasos". On this Camino, we will pass through countless towns and even cities with all the services, and you will have industrial washing machines to have your clothes ready and prepared for the next stage. So just take care of good shoes and socks, mackintosh, sleeping bag, and 3 or 4 changes of each garment. If you want to know more, we leave you this post on what to take on the French Way.
How does the WhatsApp group work?
Approximately one month before the start of the trip we create a WhatsApp group with the members of your group. We open it for a day to facilitate that you can agree if some of you leave from the same area and thus share a vehicle and then it becomes exclusively an informative group of the trip, so it will remain closed. In it you will receive the Canalla Guide one day before the start, and during your Camino all the locations of hostels and restaurants, menus, recommendations and everything you need to make your week an unforgettable experience.
You are not going to see the Scoundrel Travellers team.
The Camino de Santiago is a unique experience, it is very safe and perfectly signposted. It is an experiential experience, you will go at your own pace and you will have your group/family with whom you will walk or see at times when you arrive at your destination (it is not a hiking route). You will have the WhatsApp of a trip coordinator in case you need any recommendations or whatever, although as you know, everything is perfectly organised and you will also have your Canalla Guide.
Many of you ask us if you are going to see Alberto, and although every year he goes up 2 or 3 times to the Camino, understand that it is very complicated and that he is at his best directing the project, a project in which currently more than 3,500 people come every year, so that you can enjoy it to the maximum.
How do I get to Baiona?
It is very easy to get to the start of your Camino. If you are travelling from places like the Canary Islands, Seville or Barcelona, or from outside Spain, the nearest airport is Vigo, and from there you can take a Lugove bus to Baiona, which will take you to your destination in just over an hour. Another option is from Madrid, where there are trains to Vigo.
If on the other hand you travel to Santiago de Compostela, you will have to take a train to Vigo and from the intermodal station take a bus to Baiona. Never forget carpooling, sometimes it's a comfortable and cheap option. I leave you a link with more information to reach Baiona.
Where do we eat on the Camino de Santiago?
With Viajeros Canallas you will have 5 breakfasts and 5 dinners (not including dinner in Santiago de Compostela). The Camino is full of bars, restaurants, etc, where you can stop, have a drink and eat, although in many cases it is possible that you have already arrived at your destination at lunchtime. Use our Canalla Guide where you will find recommendations of homemade and Galician places.
I have food intolerances or special dietary requirements, can I travel with you?
It is not recommended if you have any kind of intolerance. Understand that you are going in a group and obviously they are closed menus and sometimes we go to villages or restaurants that are not going to be able to meet your dietary requirements. For more common intolerances such as lactose or gluten, they are more prepared; and if you understand that you are doing the Camino de Santiago and that at some point you may not have bread or milk and you can adapt, understanding that it is an adventure trip, there is no problem. For other types of intolerances, it is essential that you consult us before making your reservation.
How should I train?
We recommend that you train consistently, walk about 4-5 km a day, i.e. about an hour, and occasionally go for a longer walk. You should also make the most of the hilly areas close to you. Here is a link that gives you more training tips so that you can prepare your Camino to the maximum.
Do I have to walk with the group?
The Camino de Santiago is experiential, you can do it at your own pace. You can decide to go out on your own to walk or join up with other compis for it, as you wish. The Camino de Santiago is perfectly signposted.
How long does it take?
On the French Way you will cover a distance of 114 kilometres in 7 days, 6 nights of which we will walk 5 stages. You can consult in this link the stages of the French Way.
On the Portuguese Coastal Route, you will walk 124 kilometres in 6 stages, from Baiona to Santiago de Compostela. The duration of this trip is 8 days and 7 nights. Have a look at the following link to the stages of the Portuguese Way along the coast.
What are the age groups?
People of all ages come with us. They are large groups, so you are sure to find people of a similar age to you to share the experience.
Is there a minimum and/or maximum age to travel with you?
There is really no age limit. The most important thing is the enthusiasm you have for this experience and of course that you train and prepare yourself. We have travelled with children as young as 6 years old (obviously under that age we consider that it is not an experience for children) to grandparents of 86 years old.
Can families with children join?
Of course they do! We have a lot of experience with children as young as 6 years old and for them it is a fantastic experience, they have a great time as if they were at a camp. Obviously, for them to enjoy it to the maximum, they must be used to walking.
Which Camino do you recommend if it's my first time?
If this is your first Camino, you we recommend the French Way from Sarria is the one that most people do and even repeats, there are beautiful landscapes, villages, small towns, great food and you will be very safe in the fact that it is full of services (towns, villages and bars in intermediate areas) and people leave delighted, it would definitely be our recommendation!
What are the best months to do the Camino de Santiago?
You can do the Camino de Santiago at any time of the year, even in the cold winter. Viajeros Canallas organises it from the end of March to October, which are the best dates both for the weather and because all the services are open (bars, restaurants, etc.) and you will find everything more lively.
How do I get the Pilgrim's Credential?
Don't worry! With Viajeros Canallas on your arrival you will pick up your Credencial, that passport that you have to stamp during your Camino to get your Compostela once you arrive in Santiago.

Travelling one or two days before and one or two days after can be cheaper and allows you to get more out of the experience.
What are the rooms like, can they be single rooms?

Citizens of Spain, the United States and most Latin American countries do not need a visa for short stays between 30 and 90 days, depending on the country. You just need your passport with more than six months validity and a return ticket. We always recommend checking the requirements according to the nationality of your passport.
I don't speak English, how can I communicate?
Don't worry! The whole trip is organised in Spanish, except for the communication with external people (e.g. hotel reception, bars, restaurants, driver of the 4 x 4, etc.) who speak English. But I'm sure that someone in the group will give you a hand with the language!
You will travel with a group of Spanish speakers and the guided activities will also be in Spanish.

What does the meal plan include?
In our private hostels option, the trip includes 5 breakfasts and 5 dinners.
Dinner in Santiago de Compostela is not included, and not by chance 😉.
After more than 10 years organising groups, we have seen that in Santiago the same thing happens almost always: many people prefer to stay for a drink, have dinner later, go to the pilgrim's mass or simply choose the place they feel like on that special day.
That is why we have decided to give you total freedom.
Instead of a closed dinner, we give you a lot of recommendations of places for all tastes and budgets, so you can close your Camino as you want, without rushing or obligations.
From my chosen date, when do I have to take the return transport?
The first day of your chosen date is only for you to organise your arrival in Dubai and meet the group in the afternoon, and the last day of your chosen date from the morning onwards is departure day, i.e. you can pick up your return transport at any time you wish.
How did we meet on the first day with the group?
The meeting point with your group will be directly at the hotel.
Before your trip, you will receive all the necessary information in good time: exact location, clear directions and recommendations on the best way to get there, which in Dubai is very easy, both by metro and taxi.
In addition, about a month before the start of the trip, we create a WhatsApp group for the trip. There you get to know your group mates and, if you have the same arrival times, you can even organise to go to the hotel together from the airport.
Do I have to take out travel insurance?
Travel insurance is very important. Depending on the country you are travelling to, it may or may not be compulsory, but our recommendation is 100% that you travel with insurance to ensure that you have peace of mind and are well covered for any unforeseen event: health, cancellations, medical incidents, etc.
Bear in mind that you are travelling to another country and that, without insurance, any mishap can lead to high costs.
Nowadays it is very easy to take out travel insurance online and for a moderate price. We also work with two of the best travel insurance companies.
If you need a recommendation or advice, let us know and we will be happy to help you. Better to be safe and travel without worries.
How do I get around to activities?
Getting around Dubai is easy and convenient.
The metro works great and connects many key points in the city. We also recommend downloading the Careem app, which works like Uber in Dubai and is perfect for carpooling.
An important detail: taxis in Dubai are very cheap, even cheaper than Careem. For this reason, the best thing to do is to agree among your group of friends and share transport, which is great value for money and more fun.
In any case, you will always have our best transport recommendations for each activity.
How does the WhatsApp group work?
Approximately one month before the start of the trip we create a WhatsApp group with the members of your group. We open it for one day to make it easier for you to agree if some of you arrive at similar flight times and so share transfers from the airport to the hotel and then it becomes exclusively an information group for the trip, so it will remain closed. You will receive the Canalla Guide one day before the start of the trip, hotel location, breakfast and dinner schedule, activity schedule, recommendations and everything you need to make your trip an unforgettable experience.
How are the meetings to see the Burj Khalifa or go to Kite Beach?
During the trip we will offer you a day to visit the area around the Burj Khalifa, enjoy the spectacular fountain show and take a leisurely stroll through the Dubai Mall, the largest shopping centre in the world. We will give you all the transport recommendations and timetables to get there easily and live the experience in a group, which is always much more enjoyable.
We'll also suggest a morning trip to Kite Beach, our favourite beach in Dubai. We'll tell you how to get there, what to do in the area and the best plans, because there are plenty of options to enjoy it to the fullest.
These get-togethers are not compulsory, but highly recommended. Sharing these moments in a group makes the experience even more special and fun!
What if I want to visit Abu Dhabi?
If you feel like visiting Abu Dhabi, you have several options.
We've left one day free during the trip so you can enjoy Dubai at your own pace: stroll around, discover new places, relax or take advantage of the Scoundrel Guide we'll give you, full of local recommendations.
Alternatively, you can join a tour from Dubai to Abu Dhabi for a supplement. In this case, it will be a guided tour in English, organised so that all you have to do is enjoy the plan.
Up to 45 days before the start of the trip, refund of 50% of the amount paid for the following reasons of force majeure:
➡ Serious illness with hospitalisation
➡ Starting a new job, in a different company
➡ Summons or presentation to a selection board for competitive examinations
Documentation proving the cause of force majeure must be presented.

What type of plug do I need for Dubai?
In Dubai, the G-type plug (three rectangular pins) is used.
We recommend that you bring an adaptor from your own country, which is easy to find in electronics shops, airports or online before you travel.
What is it like to travel with Viajeros Canallas?
Travelling with Viajeros Canallas is a combination of adventure and tranquillity.
On the one hand, you have the total freedom to experience the destination in your own way. We are not a coach trip, rigid timetables or chain tours. You move at your own pace, take your own transport, decide what to see, how long to stay and how to enjoy each experience.
We love that bit of adventure that every traveller feels: discovering new places, getting lost in an unexpected street, trying to converse in another language or improvising a plan on the fly. You never lose that spark. And, at the same time, you travel with the peace of mind of an experienced organisation.
Before the trip you will receive the Canalla Guide with recommendations and places tested by our team (some may not be your style, and that's fine 😉 but they are selected with real criteria and experience). You will have clear information so that you can organise your trip with confidence and make the most of the destination.
Moreover, and this is particularly important in Dubai:
You travel in a group, which creates a family atmosphere from the first day.
You travel in Spanish, which in Dubai is a big plus, as hardly anyone speaks our language (taxis, hotels, restaurants and services in general will not).
There will always be a member of the Scoundrel Travellers team in Dubai, who will attend the main activities and will be available to help you with any questions or recommendations.
It will be like someone else in your group, but with knowledge of destiny.
In a nutshell:
Adventure and freedom to experience the trip your way, with the security of a team that has already been there and takes care of every detail.
Can I do the Camino alone but in a private double room?
Of course you can! Please note that if you sign up alone you will be sharing a room with another member of the group.
When will I know which are my accommodations in the private double room modality?
The name of the first accommodation in Sarria will be sent to you by WhatsApp 2 days before the start of the Camino and every morning you will have the location of your accommodation of the day.
How will I receive all the information about my Camino in the private double room modality?
All information will be sent to you in a private and personalised way via WhatsApp.
Why are the dinners not included in the private double room rate?
In this concept you go in small groups and privately. We include the Welcome Dinner for the group to get to know each other and breakfasts to leave with energy, but the rest of the day is yours to enjoy the local gastronomy of Galicia, which has an incredible offer.
Do you carry my luggage during the Camino in the private double room modality?
That's up to you, you can take it with you or hire the luggage transfer service as an option, for 30€ (French Way); single payment for the whole week and we will transfer your backpack or cabin bag (as long as it does not exceed 15kgs) from stage to stage during your Camino. If this is your case, you would hire it together with the second payment (up to one month before the start of the trip). It is very important for your transfer that everything goes inside your luggage, there can be nothing outside it.
Can I choose my roommate?
If you sign up with a friend, partner or family member you will always sleep together. If you sign up alone, we will assign you a roommate to share the room.
Will I have a private bathroom in the double room?
Yes, in most of the hostels and guesthouses we work with you will have a private bathroom in your room.
